This project is an acrylic painting on a book, painted on both the cover and the final page, forming the beginning and the ending of a visual story. The illustrated book is inspired by the Vienna Secession style and is meant to be read as a transition rather than a closed narrative.
The story begins in Chinese and continues in English, following a boat moving forward as a symbol of hope and passage. The imagery reflects my ten years living in the United States, from elementary school through high school. While the book marks an ending of that chapter, it also represents a continuation, as I move into college and a new stage of life. The work explores the idea that endings and beginnings can exist at the same time.
