This project is a three-part printmaking stamp series that reflects my past, present, and future through abstract interpretations of place. Instead of directly illustrating locations, I used carved stamps to translate personal memories and emotions into form, texture, and repetition.
Where You Come From is inspired by my hometown, Wuhan, China. Referencing Wuhan as the “city of a hundred lakes,” the stamp spreads lake-like forms across the surface, with the Yangtze River Bridge placed at the center. These elements are recognizable but intentionally abstracted, allowing memory and feeling to guide the composition rather than realism.
Where You Are represents my current (2024) state. The fractured, broken-glass imagery suggests uncertainty and resistance, with something hidden beneath the surface. This stamp reflects my desire to break through obstacles and search for clarity.
Where You Are Going imagines a future shaped by softness and calm. Flowing forms inspired by flowers, draping fabric, and the movement of breath create a gentle, peaceful composition that represents what I am moving toward emotionally.
Together, the stamps show how I use printmaking as a reflective process, combining abstraction and symbolism to explore identity, transition, and personal growth.
